“ My phone is dying.”  literally means,

「私の携帯が死にそうです(Watashi no keitai ga shinisoudesu)」,

but we say 「携帯の電池が切れそうです(Keitai no denchi ga kiresoudesu)」

on this context.

 

1. 携帯/ けいたい / keitai

→ Phone (cell phone)

※Cell phone is originally “携帯電話(keitai denwa)”

but we call it “携帯(keitai)” for short.

 

2. 電池/ でんち/ denchi

→ battery

 

3. (電池が)切れそうです/

(でんちが) きれそうです/

(Denchi ga) kiresoudesu 

→(My battery) is dying.

/ (Keitaino) denchiga kiresoudesu

 

You don’t have to say “keitaino”

when it’s obvious you’re talking about your phone.

( Like when you’re talking on the phone,etc. )

I’m sorry, I’ll call you later. My phone is dying.

/ すみません、電池が切れそうなので後でかけ直します。

/ すみません でんちが きれそうなので あとで かけなおします

/ Sumimasen denchiga kiresounanode atode kakenaoshimasu.

 

Casual way to say “My phone is dying.”

 

In casual situation, you say

(携帯の)電池切れそう。/

(けいたいの)でんち きれそう。/

(Keitaino) denchi kiresou.

 

Example1

A: Do you have a smartphone charger? My phone is dying!

/ スマホの充電器持ってる?電池切れそう!

/ すまほの じゅうでんき もってる?でんち きれそう!

/ Sumaho no juudenki motteru? Denchi kiresou!

 

B: Here you are.

/ はい。
